Face Shapes and Jewellery Suitability
Wear the right jewellery and highlight the parts of your face you love!
First things first, to know what suits the shape of your face you must first know how many face shapes there are and which category you fall in.
Most common face shapes known to the world of fashion are oval, round, diamond, square, heart (inverted triangle) , triangular and rectangular (oblong). You must have heard many style gurus telling you to “wear the right hairstyle for your face shape” and you must have wondered, “ How do I know what face shape I am?” Well, it’s not rocket science, in fact, you can do this by drawing the outline of your face on a mirror, or have a friend take your picture; there are many examples online for every face shape, so you’re sure to find yours!
Starting off with the Oval face, this is the most common and most flattering face shape and we have seen these on some of the most beautiful celebrities including Katrina Kaif.
Oval faces are slightly longer and thinner than round faces, they are soft and curved. They can wear almost any shape or style of necklace, provided that the design complements the body shape too. However, the length of your neck plays an important role. For longer necks, collars, chokers, and princess style will be a better choice, for shorter necks, low hanging necklaces are the go-to options.
As for earrings, they too can be worn in any style and length making sure the design is in proportion to your face.
For the round face cuties, you too have soft and curved faces with an equal distance all around. Making your nose the center point of your face. Drew Barrymore and Mila Kunis are examples of women with round faces.
Your main goal is to lengthen your face so it can look more flattering, this can be done by wearing longer, drooping necklaces which create a “V”. You must definitely avoid chokers, collars and princess lengths especially if you have a shorter and wider neck.
The round face is ideal for wearing long, drooping, vertical and dangly earrings. Any styles with a strong vertical line are most flattering on round faces. When you think round, THINK LENGTH!
Oblong or rectangular faces are longer but with less width, as compared to square faces or in other words it is a ‘concoction’ of the square and oval shaped faces and tends to have a square jaw which is longer than it wide.
In this case, your aim should be to ‘lessen’ the length of your face, this can be done by opting for necklaces such as collars, chokers, and princess lengths and by trying to avoid longer necklaces such as matinee, opera and ropes.
To add a little drama to your look, rectangular shaped faces should opt for loud, large, colorful, “button” style earrings. Wide chandelier earrings with color and movement also complement this shape.
Ever admired people with amazing jaw-lines? Yes, they most definitely had a square shaped face. For square shaped faces, the distance from the top of the face, to the chin is equal to the width of the face. If you are one of those blessed people with a defining jaw line, then you need necklaces with length and curvature to soften that strong jaw line. Princess, matinee, opera and rope lengths are ideal in your case. Pendants and focal elements with curves and swirls are another great option. Large oval hoops, long drop and narrow chandelier earrings look most favorable for a square shaped face.
Heart shaped faces are wider at the brow and narrower at the chin, making the width of the forehead and cheek bones larger than that of the chin. To reduce the appearance of length in the jaw line, heart shaped faces need short necklaces with curves to diminish the appearance length in the jaw line. Chokers with beads, pendants on short necklaces, circular neck-wires and smock style necklaces are some great options for the heart shaped face.
Dangling earrings that are rounded at the bottom are a classic look for this particular face.
On the other hand, similar to other face shapes that have a strong jaw line, you triangular face shaped ladies need to add shorter length jewelry to your collection. For necklaces you can opt for chokers, collars and curved pendants. Earrings too need to be shorter in length but that doesn’t mean they have to be simple, add drama and style to your jewelry collection as much as your heart desires.
Last but not the least, we have our precious (pardon the pun) diamond face shaped queens.
You already know you have quite outstanding and sharp features. As diamond faces are quite angular top and bottom, keeping your necklaces short can help create a softer face shape. Lucky for you, earrings should be in proportion to your face, and since most earrings are angular, you have a wide variety to choose from.
